What is this blog about?
Posted February 7th, 2008
Firstly, if you don’t know what a blog is read this post. If you don’t know how to subscribe to a blog via RSS, read this post.
Who is it for?
This blog is developed and written by Jigsaw Internet Solutions, it is aimed at anybody that runs, manages, purchases or has any involvement with websites but are not actually designers themselves.
Originally it was intended for the use of our clients only, however we have benefited from lots of free information from various other blogs and so we felt that this was a way of giving something back.
So you are more than welcome to read and use the information in this blog whether you have hired us before or have no intention of ever doing so. We hope that you will find the information useful and make the most of your website, whoever develops it for you.
What’s it about?
As we said, it is aimed at website owners and not designers so it is not going to be a technical blog full of HTML and CSS, there are already hundreds of excellent blogs covering those subjects.
We will be going through the basics of the internet and website such as how search engines work and covering issues such as the role of a website owner, what to look for in a web design agency, how much input you should have in your design and why your site looks different in certain web browsers. There will be practical advice to help you get the most out of your website such as ways to market your website and links to useful recourses.
Our first proper topic post will be on the importance of web standards.
How often will you post?
We would love to update the blog regularly but we are very busy with design work at the moment so we don’t want to commit and then let people down. However, we will commit to a minimum of 1 update per month but hopefully we will make 2, 3 or even more depending on other commitments.
Community
The thing that separates a blog from a normal website is the community that can be built around it. You can leave comments after each and every blog post. Hopefully over time these comments will grow and we will have ourselves a little website owners community where we can share ideas and advice.
